Ashley Norkus, BVRS deaf blind services coordinator, is featured in the winter newsletter of the Pennsylvania Deaf Blind Initiative. She writes, "I was then diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a degenerative retinal disorder, in October 2003 and it is something that I will never forget. I was a Deaf individual who was using sign language and lip reading to communicate with people and the thought of going blind scared me to death." New Outlook Safety ClassBlind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh’s next New Outlook class on skills and techniques for seniors and others interested in tips for living safely in the home with vision loss starts Wednesday, March 7. Training in a variety of adaptive skills and techniques is offered one day each week from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for six weeks. Scheduling is flexible, and the class is free for individuals who qualify. For more information or to register, call 412-368-4400. |
Ski/Sporting Clays Fundraiser Feb. 10 at Seven Springs
Diann Roffe, an Olympic gold medalist in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, will be featured at the 28th annual Corporate Cup Ski Race and Sporting Clays fundraiser Friday, Feb. 10, at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. Evening Hours Available for Low Vision Program
Our Low Vision Program now has evening appointments available on Tuesdays. The new hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. BVRS's Low Vision Program provides services for people who have some usable vision.
